Nick Grasso Announces Candidacy for Mayor of Elmira

First District City Councilmember Nick Grasso has formally announced his candidacy for Mayor of the City of Elmira, running on a platform of collaboration, accountability, and fiscal responsibility. Grasso is asking his fellow Elmirans to join him in building a safer, more prosperous, and healthier city for everyone.

Who Is Nick Grasso?

Born and raised in Elmira, Nick Grasso graduated from Elmira Free Academy in 2008. He holds an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration from Corning Community College. He is the owner of First Class Auto Detailing, located at 151 W. Washington Ave., which he has operated in the City of Elmira for over 14 years. 

In 2019, Nick made history as the youngest person elected to the Elmira City Council, winning the 1st District seat on a platform of transparency, accountability, and nonpartisan leadership. On Council, he has consistently voted against raising property taxes, advocating instead for fiscally sustainable budget practices that protect Elmira taxpayers.

Why He’s Running

Nick Grasso is running for Mayor because he believes Elmira deserves leadership that puts residents first. His goal is to refine the direction based on long-term sustainability instead of short-term solutions. His campaign, “Elmira First,” reflects a simple but powerful commitment: Every decision made at City Hall should serve the everyday people of Elmira.

As Mayor, Nick Grasso will prioritize:

•  Neighborhood Safety: Partnering with law enforcement and the community to make every street in Elmira safe for families, retirees, and hardworking residents.

•  Economic Growth: Attracting new tax-paying businesses, supporting local entrepreneurs, and monetizing city assets to reduce dependence on county subsidies.

•  Fiscal Responsibility: Delivering a transparent, honest budget that makes tough decisions without burdening Elmira taxpayers.

•  Community & Quality of Life: Investing in neighborhoods, parks, and public spaces, and engaging residents who have felt left behind by city government.

•  Accountability at City Hall: Shifting the culture of city government from the top down, so residents can trust that their leaders are working for them.
